The Turangi Apartments
Michael Melville and Design Habbitts worked together to turn this existing property and garage into three high spec apartments designed as holiday houses for both fishing and skiing. The internal stairs to the main house were removed and the building was separated into two apartments.
The monopitch roof on the second story serves to emphasise the new addition opening itself up to the view. Large sliding doors open to peel back the North wall, exposing the view, bringing Lake Taupo into the living space.
Decks upstairs maximize the amazing views, wrapping around the building, the use of Cedar, Hardies and weatherboard gives the exterior a unique patch work of texture and colour.
The downstairs is modelled for large groups, the bathroom area has two separate shower rooms and another room with large a basin zone, disabled persons are accommodated.
The double garage was converted into a large studio apartment; existing Rimu beams exposed create a distinctive feel to the large open space.
